Fernie Search and Rescue responded to a call by the RCMP at around 8 p.m. on October 13, to rescue the occupants of a vehicle known to be stuck near the top of Morrissey Ridge, southeast of Fernie.

The motorists had called for help on their cell phone, managing to give the RCMP approximate details of their whereabouts shortly before the cell phone's prepaid minutes expired.

Fernie Search and Rescue sent two vehicles up Matheson Creek Road, eventually finding the stranded vehicle down one of the side roads off the main road to the ridge.

The vehicle had become stuck in snow and the two occupants, a young couple from Tasmania, were uninjured but starting to feel the effects of the cold night.
