Fernie and District Search and Rescue is reimbursed for any costs to the group of carrying out an operation, whether for food supplies, rental costs or damage caused to equipment.

However the team must raise funds for any new equipment it wishes to buy in order to expand its capabilities.

Last year's. fundraising goal - to buy a portable repeater - helped last weekend's search as the site workers could easily communicate by radio with the dispatch team in Fernie.

The team's current goal is to buy a second, newer truck - its current one is 18 years old.

They have been granted some funding by the BC Gaming Commission but must raise $25,000 for the truck, which will store all the rescue equipment the team needs so they can turn out even faster.

Their annual fundraiser - planned before last weekend's events - is at The Pub at Park Place Lodge, Fernie next Saturday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.

The event will feature a raffle and charity auction and last year raised $4,000. If any businesses can donate prizes they can contact the team at 250-423-7511.

Donations can also be sent to Fernie and District Search and Rescue. Box 190, Fernie, VOB 1M0.
