Simon Piney, Adele Longstaff and Chris Thomas arrive back safely.

Fernie Search and Rescue (FSAR) was called out around midday on 13 June to help locate and rescue some lost hikers.

Jim and Adele Longstaff, from Saskatoon SK, lost their way on a hike in Fernie Provincial Park, eventually finding themselves some way into the Black Forest. After some time unable to find their way out, they called the RCMP on their cellphone, who in turn contacted FSAR.

FSAR responded by sending two quad bikes in from Fernie Alpine Resort, and was able to hike into the forest and locate
the couple. They were then guided back to the quads and driven back to the ski hill, before being transferred into the FSAR truck and dropped back at their car in the provincial park.

The FSAR quad bikes were purchased using grant money from the lottery commission, and have considerably increased the speed of FSAR's response times in situations such as these.
