Location Elk river

A vehicle spun off the road and ended up submerged to the roof in the Elk river, Fire and RCMP responded and were unable to find tracks on the bank to indicate anybody had escaped the vehicle so called in the FADSAR swiftwater team to check the vehicle for any occupants.  A FADSAR swiftwater team member accessed the vehicle and was able to probe the vehicle and determined nobody was inside.

This finding was reinforced by a male in soaking wet clothing arriving at Cranbrook hospital whilst the FADSAR team were still assessing the scene reporting he had crashed into the river but the agencies were unable to confirm 100% he was the driver of this vehicle as they were surprised he went to Cranbrook hospital 50 mins away rather than Fernie 5 mins away and that the vehicle he was describing was not the same colour as the one in the river.

When the vehicle was removed from the river it could be seen the vehicle was two tone and the colour the subject was describing was on the bottom half of the vehicle but when submerged we could only see the top of the vehicle and hence a different colour.
