Fernie Search and Rescue (FSAR) has now established a Rope Rescue team in the Elk Valley. After some six months of training, the team was recently certified at an evaluation held in Fernie and Elko.

This gives FSAR a high-angle rescue capability that, until recently, did not exist locally with support being required from the nearest team in Kimberley. The members of FSAR certified in Rope Rescue are: Simon Lewis, Heather Callahan, Mark Cunnane, Gord Ohm, Bernie Palmer, Carole Beaupre and Simon Piney.
