Fernie SAR were requested by the RCMP to investigate reports from a CP rail engineer of a canoe in the Elk River South of Morrisey.

Two members were sent by helicopter to locate the canoe, check downstream for any occupants of the canoe as well as look at the river dynamics in the event a team would be required to enter the river.  The members located the canoe and as a result of condition and algae on the canoe determined it had been in the river for some time and after a cursory check downstream for any subjects it was determined nobody was in any harm and the members returned to base.
