A Spot beacon was activated numerous times using the call family member feature rather than the 911 feature so it was assumed the subject had either activated by accident, was not in serious distress and needed assistance or pressed the wrong button. Four SAR members were sent in the main truck to investigate and located the subject safe and well but who had lost the keys to his vehicle so could not drive back. Being that he was deep in the backcountry on a forest service road he was unable to walk out.
