This month we will be focusing on navigation, working with GPS's.

I have put together an exercise involving GPS's and a few surprises on the way. 

Be prepared for being outside with appropriate footwear.

You need to bring your GPS (if you have one), compass and headlamp (in case you take too long).

let's hope the weather stays nice.

This month we will be focussing on winter preparation.

We will be looking at personal winter packs, winter first aid and looking at the winter specific equipment.

Table top exercise looking at maps and navigation, tasks included

• Locating points at UTM coordinates
• Locating points at Lat/Lng coordinates
• Coverting from Lat/Lng Degrees Decimal to Degrees, Minutes and Seconds
• Scale conversions
• Measuring distances between two points

This month we will hold training on the 9th(second wed) as the 2nd is close to the hols and people may still be out of town.  

We will be looking at an avalanche response with some practical training with your transceivers, probes and shovels.

Come prepared to be outside, ideally with your own personal gear.

This month we will be looking at communication skills, including interview skills and radio handling.

At some point you will be outside so please come dressed for the conditions.

This month we will looking at ropes for GSAR. This is not technical rope rescue training but covering the rope skills that all members of SAR should have.

This month we will be covering packaging subjects in the strecther and the various stretcher wheel attachments.

 This month we will be looking at survival skills including fire & shelter building. We will be outside so come prepaired with your 24hr pack so you can use the tarp and firelighters to make your own shelters etc. this will be a valuable experience and you may have to use these skills if you have to stay out overnight. Meet at the SAR Hall at 6pm
