Dr. Don McPhalen, medical director for Kananaskis Public Safety, and International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR) medical commission (MEDCOM) member will be in Fernie on December 11. Dr. McPhalen spends a lot of time in the field with K-Country visitor safety and avalanche forecasters so is in a good position to understand the real life field challenges of AvSAR medical response in Canada.

He is kind enough to offer us a current medical update and best practices refresher as it relates to avalanche rescue response. There should be time for some Q&A as well. He just gave a similar talk for the CAA/ACMG continuing professional development workshop in Revelstoke this fall, so this is a great opportunity for those that missed it!
